Description

Rugged, Gritty
Rough, Smooth

Tea bowl is endowed with various textural feels.
When warmed with hot water, the clay gets slightly moistened.
Your hands touch the surface of a bowl, which bears the warmth of a body temperature.
Your lip touches the surface of the bowl, when the fragrance of green matcha tea gently enters through your body.
A bowl of tea is whisked just for you.
A subtle warmth of tea fills your mind and body.

Softness of the clay still lingers in touching a Raku tea bowl, which is hand-built without a use of the potter’s wheel.
It maintains a tender warmth of human hands because of this.

Raku-yaki. The unique tradition was founded by Raku Chōjirō.
Rikyū’s wabicha philosophy lies underneath Raku wares throughout as a guiding principle.
This exhibition showcases various faces of a Raku tea bowl explored through characteristic textural feels, such as rugged, gritty, rough and smooth, and experience the warmth of the surface of a typical Raku tea bowl.
