Description

In the tea ceremony the animal motif has been given an importance as a means to form or decorate tea utensils. It works sometimes as a casual representation of everyday scenery and often more as an auspicious symbol of the New Year in the 12 Zodiac calendar as well as a subject told in poetic narratives.
This exhibition features various tea utensils, such as incense containers and burners, flower vases, dishes and containers to be used in the Kaiseki meal, not to speak of tea bowls, produced by Raku generation all associated with the New Year Zodiac animal.
