Description
Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of Tamesaburo YAMAMOTO (1893-1966), the first president of Asahi Breweries, we are delighted to hold an exhibition of “the Mikuni-so” which is the Mingei(folk crafts)-style house owned by Mr. Yamamoto who was an enthusiastic supporter of the Mingei Movement.
In 1928, Soetsu YANAGI (1889-1961) and his partners presented a pavilion entitled Mingei-kan (Mingei House) of the Exhibition to show their idea in
living space for the first time. After the exhibition, it was bought by Yamamoto and reconstructed on his premises in the Mikuni area of Osaka, and renamed Mikuni-so.
This exhibition showcases works from our collection donated by the Yamamoto family which had previously used at the Mikuni-so, recreating its interior in the gallery, to reconsider the historical/aesthetic meaning as well as to uncover the story of the remarkable house.
