About
“To Places In View of the Sea”
In my haste, I drive and finally reach a spot with an ocean view, and I draw that scene – trees that belong to the sea. The sea of the Man’yōshū 8th century anthology of Japanese poetry, the sea shimmering with the light of phosphorescent insects, a nocturnal ocean expanse emanating from jet black trees. Trees cloaked by the sea that suggest a painting of the past. And, the light scattered by the surface of those trees loses its way and appears to look for a way out. Here, I depict scenes where people are at a loss for words, scenes that disrupt one’s sense of equilibrium, scenes pulsating with a heart of their own, and time that reflects on remoteness and proximity.
