Overview
“SHUNGA”, which is said to have influenced Picasso and Rodin by ukiyo-e artists such as Hokusai and Utamaro mainly in the Edo period, was evaluated again after the “SHUNGA” EXHIBITION held at the British Museum in 2012. Has been done.
As you all know, by reviewing “Shunga” from the perspectives of art history, genre history, and literary history, the fun of appreciating “Shunga” was discovered.
But why are these “shunga” considered art rather than pornography in modern times?
Is it because the detoxified works that exist in the history of the past are the reason why we can appreciate and enjoy “Shunga” today? If there is a modern “shunga”, what kind of expression would it be?
At JARFO, we hope that it will be an opportunity to think about the ideal way of sexual expression in this era together with artists living in the present age, based on this awareness of problems.
