Description
imura art gallery kyoto is pleased to announce the solo exhibition for the first time in five years of Fumio Yamazaki who is the wood carving artist.
His artworks are made of one piece of wood, camphor tree, by using the technique “Ichiboku-zukuri” and given colors. The series of “Silent Neighbor” which he works on from 2006 is anthropomorphized having a body of a child and a head of a domestic animal with lonely and sorrowful eyes. Furthermore, they create the inimitable presence making us feel a feeling of peace and calm air with slightly warp and imbalance.
He said, “It can be possible that the reason of the variant form of my work is that I would like to answer in the affirmative through my projecting, as a producer, myself onto vagueness of the existence and making form a certain.”
The works that he spent much time and produced facing a wood and himself let us feel some kind of signs. And they carved by his certain technique enfold gently viewers by a distinct fragrance of a camphor tree and smooth and beautiful feel of wood surface.
Yamazaki attracted people’s attention in the exhibition “ZIPANGU”: going around Nihonbashi Takashimaya, Osaka Takashimaya, Kyoto Takashimaya, The Niigata Bandaijima Art Museum and Akita Museum of Modern Art. We hope you feel something from his works standing quietly with a commanding atmosphere.
