About
Kyoto City University of Arts Art Gallery @KCUA presents Artist Social Reproduction, an exhibition organized based on the theme of production and artistic techniques, featuring seven artists who became acquainted with each other during their time in London. All seven of these artists, who belong to the same generation, are interested in the relationships between production and techniques in society, and express these relationships in their works.
Each work in this exhibition will reveal how the artists are trying to find a connection between the act of production and our society today, based on their respective techniques developed through their work up to the present. The different approaches taken by the artists range from focusing on the relationship between the advancement or transition of artistic techniques and society to contemplating the relationship between producers and consumers, or to attempting to re-examine the criteria for evaluating art from the creators’ perspective. Visitors will be encouraged to reconsider the role of art in society as they come face to face with the questions that emerge when these works are shown in the same space.
