One of Kajii’s works has been used for the cover of “Yakusoku no Umi” written by Toyoko Yamazaki which is scheduled to be released in late February from Shinchosha.

FOIL GALLERY is pleased to announce a photography exhibition “NAMI” by Shoin Kajii, commemorating the 10th anniversary of releasing his book entitled the same.
Kajii released his first book “NAMI” in 2004 by winning the 1st FOIL Awards, with the artist Yoshitomo Nara and the representative of FOIL, Masakazu Takei as the judges. The book was awarded the Rookie of the Year 2005 by The Photographic Society of Japan. The book also made it to the final round of the Kimura Ihei Awards of the year.He started his career as a photographer while being a monk of the Singon Sect in Sado Island, Nigata. The series capture details of turbulent waters in the Sea of Japan as if they are molded objects. While Dynamic waves filled with tension roll towards you overwhelmingly, they sometimes appear calm in the silence. Stormy, yet sensitive waves captured in the series inspire you diverse emotions and deepen in a spiritual manner, as various blue of the sky and the sea give them different expressions.
The show includes the work used for the cover of “Yakusoku no Umi” written by Toyoko Yamazaki, which is scheduled to be released in late February from Shinchosha, as well as works that were not included in the original book.

Opening talk on Friday, February 21 from 19:30-20:30
Admission: 1000 yen (with a drink ticket)
