ARTIST STATEMENT
This time, I focused on still life paintings by the European Old Master, Paul Cézanne, and created a simulation of the mass images seen in contemporary art, using the style of Roy Lichtenstein, the American Pop art master. The motifs depicted in the painting are arranged like items that appear in a certain famous game. While when players acquire one of the items in the game, it can bring about significant changes in how they play, there are also times when it is better to pass over them without acquiring them, so this choice can be a source of anguish. While I admire how games can stir emotions in people within the context of the game, I also realize that we often encounter situations in our real-world society where we must make difficult choices. When faced with these situations, I always think that both the good and the bad will become nourishment for tomorrow, so we should persevere and push through without hesitation. In a sense, ” one may as well hang for a sheep as a lamb.” Driven by such a foolish idea, I have created an unscrupulous still life painting with respect to the original works. I hope you will enjoy the exhibition.
